modem vs targeta de red
Hola comunidad soy nuevo en Linux y me parece un sistema genial, hace poco instalé ubuntu 12.04 y ya detesto entrar por windows . Llevo días tratando de instalar mi modem (Motorola SM56 Data Fax Modem) pero no he conseguido ningún resultado, leí el paper de Javier y en la parte del wvdialconfig me sale que no encuentra el modem. En windows hubo un tiempo en que no me reconocía el modem porque había problemas con los recursos entre este y otro dispositivo ethernet, al parecer la tarjeta de red integrada al board pero se soluciono sin problemas. Por favor si alguien sabe como resolver este problema en linux me haría un gran favor. Gracias por adelantado!!!

Instala los drivers del módem. Esa marca de módem suele tener chipset SmartLink. Sus drivers se encuentran en los repositorios de Ubuntu (sl-modem-source y sl-modem-daemon). Preferiblemente utiliza la aplicación "scanModem" que te facilita mucho el trabajo.

Gracias por la ayuda pero como especifiqué ya había instalado estos drivers y seguía sin reconocerme el modem. Con scanmodem la versión que tengo está en inglés y me pierdo entre tanta información, si alguien sabe donde puedo encontrarlo en español por favor dejeme un link aquí.
Realmente lo que quería probar era hacer algo parecido a como se hace en windows, clikc_derecho Equipo, Administrar, Administrador de dispositivos y desabilitar la targeta Ethernet. Algo que me funcionó en su momento.

¿Y de dónde sacas que en Linux está pasando lo mismo, mijo (eso de que hay problemas entre el módem y la tarjeta de red)? Mira, a mí lo que me parece es que Linux simplemente no tiene los drivers para tu módem. Así que mi sugerencia es que te concentres en instalar los drivers del módem.
Primero, desinstala los drivers que ya instalarte (no vaya a ser que no sean esos los drivers que necesita tu módem). Segundo, reinicia el sistema, pasa nuevamente el scanModem y postea aquí el contenido del archivo ModemData.txt (borra la carpeta "Modem" que generó la vez anterior el scanModem para que no haya confusión). Vamos a intentar ayudarte.

Ahhh, no hay versión de scanModem en español en ninguna parte... ni en España.

Oye, muchísimas gracias por la ayuda, la verdad es que entre tanta gente que proponía cambiar de modem para solucionar el problema estaba empezando a perder las esperanzas. Lo del problema de recursos era solo un intento desesperado por probar algo que pudiera solucionar el problema, no obstante sería bueno saberlo para futuras situaciones en que realmente lo necesite.
